What Are You Still Holding

Called to Follow | Monday Reflection | Week 1

"'Come, follow me,' Jesus said, 'and I will send you out to fish for people.' At once they left their nets and followed him." — Mark 1:17–18

Sunday you heard about four fishermen who left their nets the moment Jesus called. Not after they finished the day. Not after they talked it over. At once. The nets went down and they walked away.

Most of us have nets. Not fishing nets. The thing we keep holding onto that we know is keeping us from full availability to Jesus. It is not always a bad thing. Simon and Andrew were not doing something wrong. They were working. The nets were their livelihood, their identity, their plan. The nets were not the problem. Holding them when Jesus said follow was.

The question Sunday asked was what nets do you need to drop. And most of us left with a quiet answer we have not done anything with yet.

That is what Monday is for.

Not a dramatic public moment. Not a big announcement. Just an honest private decision about the thing you are still holding that Jesus has been asking you to put down for longer than you want to admit.

You already know what it is. You knew it Sunday. You probably knew it before Sunday.

This week, put it down. Not forever if that feels too large. Just for this week. Just long enough to see what following looks like when your hands are empty and available.

The nets will still be there if you change your mind. But so will Jesus.
